EMPOWERING FUTURES. BUILDING CONFIDENCE. CHANGING LIVES.
Resources by Renae Life Skills Academy is a practical, hands-on, in-person instructional program for students ages 16 to 18 who are preparing for greater independence and the transition into adulthood. Students participate in real-world learning experiences that combine direct instruction, guided practice, problem-solving, group discussion, and hands-on application. The program supports an Employ, Enlist, or Enroll framework by helping students develop practical life skills while exploring pathways for employment, military service, postsecondary education or training, and independent adulthood.
Learning areas may include:
● Financial literacy and budgeting ● Career preparation and job readiness ● Communication ● Self-advocacy ● Independent living skills ● Organization and personal responsibility ● Health and wellness ● Transportation ● Basic vehicle knowledge ● Community resources ● Decision-making ● Problem-solving ● Postsecondary planning.
Level 1 introduces students to foundational life skills through direct instruction, guided activities, and hands-on practice. Students build confidence in core areas such as budgeting basics, financial decision-making, communication skills, self-advocacy, daily living routines, organization, and personal responsibility. Each weekly session includes guided instruction and practical activities that allow students to apply the skills being taught. Simple take-home reinforcement activities may also be provided to help students retain and practice what they have learned in class.
Level 2 builds upon the foundational skills introduced in Level 1 with increased emphasis on independence and real-world application. Students practice more advanced budgeting, job and career readiness, communication in professional settings, decision-making, problem-solving, independent living skills, and planning for life after high school. Activities emphasize increased responsibility, self-direction, and readiness for postsecondary pathways, including employment, military service, continued education or training, and independent adulthood.
Instruction is provided in person with an emphasis on hands-on learning, real-world application, guided practice, problem-solving, and group discussion. Students attend one two-hour instructional session per week , for approximately eight instructional hours per month. Preparatory materials, such as short videos or readings, may be provided before class so students arrive prepared for the week’s hands-on lesson. Optional reinforcement activities may also be provided outside of class.
